Daily Briefing

Key Takeaways

• Ukraine executed a sweeping deep-strike campaign hitting defense-industrial and petrochemical targets across Russia — Proton-Elektroteks in Oryol (missile components, 13+ dead, 14 sources corroborated), Tolyattikauchuk in Samara Oblast, and Omsky Kauchuk in Omsk (~2,500 km from the border) — while also knocking out power to occupied Crimea via the Taman substation.
• Zelensky signaled readiness to freeze the front line along current contact lines but firmly rejected legal recognition of occupied territories or ceding 25% of Ukrainian land; he simultaneously revealed Ukraine received only 24 Patriot interceptors from the US in the past 90 days against a stated monthly need of 350.
• Starlink/Starshield speed restrictions — in place for ~11 days — have been fully lifted, restoring drone-operational connectivity; Musk separately confirmed SpaceX closed a loophole allowing Starlink use for lethal drone guidance (23 sources corroborated).
• US Secretary of State Rubio framed the war as being 'about one region' (Donbas), and the Trump administration suspended Russian diesel sanctions — moves that alarmed Kyiv and European allies and align with Russian conflict-framing.
• A sanctioned Russian energy giant (Novatek) allegedly secretly funded a US gas project linked to Witkoff-Kushner Kremlin visits, while the $25B Alaska Polar Train LNG project's leadership resigned over alleged covert Novatek control — raising serious sanctions-evasion concerns.
