Daily Briefing

Key Takeaways

• Russia launched its largest combined strike in months overnight Oct 13–14, firing 39 ballistic missiles (including ~25 Tsirkon hypersonics) and 128+ drones at Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other regions — killing at least 5 in Kyiv, wounding 36, and leaving 600,000+ without power after hitting all three of Kyiv's thermal power plants.
• SpaceX unilaterally imposed Starlink/Starshield speed caps (160 km/h threshold) on Ukrainian military terminals without warning, disrupting drone missions and delaying ballistic attack warnings; service was partially restored but the episode exposed a critical dependency and suspected political pressure from the Trump administration.
• The Trump administration warned Ukraine via US intelligence officials that continued strikes on Russian energy infrastructure — or nuclear power plants — would trigger a full suspension of intelligence sharing with Kyiv, a threat that remains active even as sharing has not yet been cut.
• Kremlin spokesman Peskov publicly dismissed Trump's proposed 'energy ceasefire' as non-binding, signaling Russia will continue energy strikes absent a formalized agreement; FBI Director Patel separately traveled to Moscow for an unannounced meeting.
• Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps liberated three more settlements and 101 km² in Donetsk Oblast under Operation 'Vivaldy' Phase 4, while Ukrainian drones struck Borisoglebsk airfield in Voronezh Oblast and a Sberbank data center in Saratov Oblast (~1,000 km from the front).
